Valentine's Day: Gift or Curse?

I am all for celebrating hallmark holidays however, is it really neccessary to make such a big deal out of it all especially if you are unattached? And why is it if you are unattached and make a decision to either be alone or hang out with your unattached girlfriends people who are attached look at you like to have the worst disease of life?! The "attached" as I like to call them, always ask the worst questions..."are you ok?", "do you want to go out with us?" (and the answer to that in the words of Whitney Houston is, "HELL to the NO!"). So if you are unattached and you're all about celebrating hallmark holidays here are a few ideas for your upcoming Valentine's Day:

1. Take a pole dancing class (not alone, go with friends): not only is it a good work out but you maybe able to use the moves sooner than later however when you do there's no need to share the details.

2. Have a chocolate cocktail party: invite your unattached girlfriends, make girly martinis and watch corny love stories that will make you laugh until it hurts. If you get drunk enough no one will have to sleep alone, bring back the days of the middle school sleepover.

3. Valentine's day mixers: believe it or not these mixers actually take place and fun people attend them (so at no time should you feel like a loser for not having a valentine, you are not the only cool person alone)

4. If you insist on being alone on Valentine's day you have the following options: go the spa, buy the best bottle of champagne your money can buy, cook you most favorite meal, fill your candy dish with your guilty pleasures, and VOD or rent a horror movie, if horror is not your thing go the comedy route. BY NO MEANS SHOULD YOU WATCH A ROMANCE THAT WILL MAKE YOU ANGRY OR CRY YOURSELF TO SLEEP!!!!!!!

  1. As a single, healthy, educated, and employed young lady I feel that society will feel pity on me this Saturday. Why?? Hell if I know because I'm quite happy in my single status and will embrace Valentine's Day as any other day..focusing on my well being, making sure I'm in the best space possible and bringing a smile to others. Valentine's Day isn't all about showcasing your affection and admiration for someone. It's completely about making sure your heart is well and feeling good like my favorite Nina Simone song. While so many people are mesmerized on this day, few can continue the love bliss on the days to follow. I however can guarantee my love bliss with myself will continue as long as I keep my heart in great condition. I'm anticipating when I'll meet "HIM" but in the meantime, I'm loving me just fine.
